ico_arrow Card Values

Blackjack is played with a standard deck of cards, meaning that there are no extra cards and none are taken out. This means that the deck will consist of 52 cards, which are broken down into 4 suits consisting of 13 cards each. Each suit has cards that go from one up to thirteen, but tallying the points is not that simple.

The Values

Let's start with the Ace card. Although it can be the most difficult to understand, the Ace card can also be the most beneficial for you. The reason why this is true is because and Ace can either count as one point or eleven points. This ability to change value can only be done with the Ace card, making it a very valuable card when thinking about Blackjack strategy.

The cards that go from 2 up to 10 are just as they are printed. The cards have no significant value other than what is printed on the card. This makes them very easy to add to your point total, allowing you the chance to determine what your next move will be.

The face cards, the Jack, King, and Queen, are all worth 10 points. Because of their point value, it can be deduced that the 10 point card has the highest possibility of being drawn. Since there are 4 suits and 3 face cards which equal 12 of these along with the original 10 cards.

Be aware that the actual suit of the card has no impact on the value of the card; they are all worth the same number of points. Some exceptions may apply if you collect a series of the same suit, but that will depend on the casino that you are playing at. If you are curious what the suits are, they are hearts, clubs, spades, and diamonds.

Getting a Blackjack

The goal of Blackjack is to get as close to 21 points without going over. You are playing against the dealer, who will have the same initial number of cards as you. Whoever is closest to the number 21 without going over, wins? Ideally, combining an Ace card with a face card will net you a Blackjack and an instant win. The entertainment of Blackjack comes from not knowing what the next card you get will be.

There are several advanced strategies for Blackjack, but it is crucial that you understand the point value for each card. This gives you the ability to calculate how many points you have and whether you need to take another card or not. Be sure to keep the point values in mind as you play Blackjack, and you'll be winning in no time.
